benefits

When demands of the stressors exceed a child’s ability to cope, they may develop symptoms of anxiety, depression, emotional reactivity, anger and acting out behavior. Children can experience trauma and attachment difficulties prior to going through adoption and foster care. Divorce, blended families and other life transitions may lead to adjustment issues. Child Counseling can be helpful by allowing children to face and process their challenges and develop healthy coping skills to adapt to current stressors. Additionally, therapist can offer professional insight on how parents can support their children through current changes and adjustments.

challenges

Sometimes children may be initially reluctant or shy to engage in counseling. This is natural and is often eased by establishing trust and feelings of psychological safety and acceptance.
We begin our work by building genuine connection with children in order to be allowed in their inner world.

During therapy, we use creative techniques, play, art, games and therapeutic books to connect and help your child process their feelings and challenges in their natural and age appropriate way. We honor uniqueness of each child and build progress upon their individual strengths, abilities and talents.

how can child counseling help?

Counseling can be helpful by allowing children to process their feelings and develop healthy coping skills to successfully adapt to current stressors. Additionally, parents can learn how to support their children outside of therapy to foster improvement in symptoms.

How often and for how long will my child need counseling?

Frequency and duration of counseling is individual and based on the intensity of symptoms and underlying concerns. In most cases children come for therapy weekly or fortnightly. As the therapy progresses and symptoms improve the frequency of sessions might be gradually reduced until the child no longer have the need for counseling.
